3 things that helped when everything felt like too much

When everything feels like too much, it doesn’t always look dramatic. Sometimes the chaos feels like being squeezed by an invisible snake – tight, suffocating, impossible to escape. There’s constant pressure and worry, and somehow I feel overwhelmed and bored at the same time. It’s hard to explain unless you’ve been there.

1. Sitting somewhere quiet and lowering expectations for the day
When I intentionally lower my day’s expectations, something shifts. It almost feels like reverse psychology – once I take the pressure off myself, I no longer feel overwhelmingly tasked. Sitting somewhere quiet and letting the bar drop doesn’t make me do less. Most of the time, it actually leads to more productivity than before, just without the panic.

2. Stepping outside or taking a warm shower
Sometimes the most helpful thing is changing my environment. Stepping outside for a few deep breaths of fresh air, feeling the sun against my skin, helps me feel more grounded in my body. If that’s not an option, a warm, relaxing shower usually does the same thing. Both calm my nervous system in a way that thinking my way out of it never really does.

3. Choosing comfort over expectations
When the pressure of life’s expectations start spiraling, I choose comfort and rest. Letting myself rest without feeling lazy or guilty and helps prevent overwhelm and burn out. It’s not about being inconsistent – it’s about recognizing that pushing harder isn’t always the answer.

None of these things fix everything. They just help enough to make the moment feel more manageable. Most of the time, that’s all I need. A little less pressure, a little more space, and permission to meet myself where I actually am.
